Quiet Space — #101 – Lone Voyager, Lieven Martens Moana

A focus on this edition of one of my favourite artists, Lieven Martens Moanna (formally known as Dolphins Into The Future). He’s also got more pseudonyms than I’ve had hot dinners. His latest release for the Longform Editions imprint is a hypnotic layering of of choral voices – at certain points you hear 11 times the same part overlaid. Thus 11 x 18 singers = 198 singers! That new work is the centrepiece of a mix that shows through various recording techniques how he creates a conceptual form of exotic music that travels beyond the pure description. Amazing. Please discover all his works….

1/2/3/4 — #112 — A Chat with Ruth Hazleton

In this episode a chat with one of this country’s outstanding folklorists, Ruth Hazleton who after many years releasing music with others, embarks on her first solo project, Daisywheel. Like many artists these days, connecting directly to friends and fans alike via crowdfunding, it allows not only artistic freedom but a sense of community with those who participate. We’ll find out all about Daisywheel and hopefully you can be involved as well. We will also hear from other artists who have been successful in these ventures recently, Dana Gehrman and Danny Widdicombe and we’ll highlight a gorgeous track from Glen Hansard’s most recent release.

Quiet Space — #100 – CRXSSINGS (fundraiser for City Plaza)

Our focus is on a new compilation, CRXSSINGS.  The idea first emerged after Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek) and Gabriel Saloman (of Yellow Swans) exchanged mixes of each other’s work. Wanting to release the material in a way that could raise funds and awareness in support of migrants and refugees struggling for survival in Europe, Zuydervelt and Saloman invited dozens of electronic artists across Europe, Australia and North America to collaborate with an artist from another country, remixing one another’s work. As well, the latest from ‘supergroup’ Uwe Zahn, Porya Hatami & Darren McClure and an excerpt from Ahnnu’s Longform Editions release.

Quiet Space — #98 – Vale and Stone

Alex Last is Soda Lite. His latest work for the Inner Islands imprint, Vale & Stone, connects times and worlds old and new. A vale is a gathering place, where nutrients accumulate and waterways meet. Stone is slow becoming, ongoing link and lithic kin. Reverence for plants, animals and landscapes fuels regenerative possibility in the ruins of this era. This excellent release (and other Soda Lite works) is our focus on this episode.
